I was wanting to upgrade my IOS to:
ADVANCED IP SERVICES
c870-advipservicesk9-mz.151-1.T.bin
Release Date: 26/Mar/2010
Size: 23986.76 KB (24562436 bytes)
Minimum Memory: DRAM:128 MB Flash:28 MB
But currently don't have enough room on flash:
28672K bytes of processor board System flash (Intel Strataflash)

27611136 bytes total (444416 bytes free)
I was wondering if someone could explain the files that I have listed. I would like to remove anything I don't need to make room for the new IOS but I don't know what most of theses files are. I do use VLANs so I know I need to keep the vlan database file.

Hello Derrick,
if you don't use SDM to configure the router you can remove all the .tar files.
the crashinfo files are the dump of previous crashes of the router.
I would suggest to upload all files using TFTP to your PC before deleting them.
Hope to help

Alright-y! Let's dissect this.
"c870-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T2.bin" is your IOS, obviously! You can delete this when you upgrade the IOS.
"crashinfo_20020301-013437" is your crashinfo ... dated 01 March 2002. You can delete this too.
"crashinfo_20020313-213850" is another crashinfo ... dated 13 March 2002.
"vlan.dat" is the VLAN database. This you DO NOT WANT TO DELETE. Don't worry. If you accidentally deleted this then all you need to do is go back to the VLAN database and re-write the config.
The rest are files created when you load SDM (Secure Device Management). These files, you can delete. I'm running 15.1(1)T on a cheaper 870 (24mb flash) so what you are doing should be right.

Thanks for the response. I do use CCP to get a lot of the big configurations out of
the way. Does CCP use the old SDM files? Also I do have an FTP server setup. Couldn't I set the router to boot the ios from the FTP server? Also if that is possible would be able to do the same for my remote sites?
