Cisco 9200 IOS Out of Space

Hi

Sorry for re-posting but not sure why Cisco removed my previous post.

Im stuck in a situation where I cannot upgrade the firmware on my switch even though I've run the command to cleanup old files etc. I've followed the instructions to copy the bin file and then run the install command. However i get a message saying that im short on space, about 10mb to be exact. Not sure what else i can delete. Has anyone else come across this and managed to resolve it?

Reboot the stack and re-run the same command again.

Wait a second .. wrong filename. 

Look at the directory of your flash.  It specifically says the prefix is "cat9k_lite".  

The file you're trying to unpack, filename "cat9k_iosxe.16.12.04.SPA.bin", is definitely NOT for a 9200/9200L.

Good spot my friend. We have a few different IOS XE models and i think i mixed up the firmware. Just getting the correct one now and will try that and report back.

Well, whether I am right or not, this behaviour is a bug. 

The process should have complained that the filename being unpacked is not compatible with the platform.  

The error message of "FAILED: flash: requires 786942 KB of free space, but only XXXXXX KB is available" is very misleading.

That installed correctly. Thanks for your help. I do agree, it should have rejected it from the start. Would've saved me a lot of time.

If TAC does not know about this then the bug will continue to future releases.
Please raise a TAC Case and then point the case details to this thread?
I do not have any 9200/9200L so I cannot raise one.

The command "install remove inactive" will be your friend, this remove (after back questioning) UNUSED Firmware images.
