Odd. I'm reading the 17.2.X Release Notes and Cisco IOS-XE 17.2.1 – Catalyst 9000 Switching Updates and quad Sup support is mentioned nowhere.
Must be an "undocumented feature".

Hi,
The new version 16.9.1 support stackwise-virtual configuration on the 9400.
Good luck as I can see some bugs.

Please correct me if this is true.
On product support/requirements page of latest ios xe its mentioned
So many people need this feature otherwise we have gone back to old days with GLBP AND HSRP

Hello,
have a look at the stack virtual whitepaper
The additional supervisors should not be able to go over ROMMON state.
The two active supervisors form an SSO pair with NSF.
The support for Quad Supervisors may be on the roadmap for the modular 9x00 like 9400 that can host two supervisors, but not supported at the moment.
There was an answer from a Cisco employee about this aspect on a recent thread.
Hope to help
Giuseppe
