Can we turn ON CISCO ASR 1002 with only one power supply instead of 1+1?

The only requirement is that the power supply be installed in the chassis in order to energize the fans and maintain proper system cooling. Because all the system fans can be powered by one power supply, the second power supply unit does not have to be powered on, but must be connected.
If you remove a power supply from a system that has four power supplies that are connected and powered on, the system can run only for a maximum of five minutes before shutting down.

Yes, IOS will recognize the presence of 1 PS is inserted/present and will give you 5 minutes (in case you need to swap because the 2nd PS is down and it needs to be replaced). At that point, the router will turn itself off.
If the 2nf PS fails, the fans will still get power from the functioning PS and keep the circulation going, as long as the 2nd PS is physically located in the chassis.

Thanks for the info. As I understood, we need to connect both power supplies but only one should be turned ON. I have to understand more that :
If we remove one power supply from a system that has four supplies connected and powered ON the system can run for max 5 mins- Does it mean that ASR will not work with one power supply connected?
Pl clear my doubts ..

It should work. The second power supply is for redundancy

For the ASR1002 to be functional, both PS need to be inserted. However, minimum of 1 PS need to be powered on.
You may be wondering why this requirement to have 2 PS inserted when only one is turned on. If so, the answer is because the fans which operate independent of the power supplies. Fans in both PS need to be operational for the system to get even ventilation.

Got it, further ,is there any kind of programming where router sense 2 supply units and works only if both are connected. If yes, what will happen in another case if second power supply goes faulty but remains connected, will the ASR work with one supply??

Great dear, so result of second case study where one PS goes faulty out of installed two PS, ASR will work contiunue as long as faulty power supply remains connected with chassis.

Yes, the answer is Yes. If the 2nd PS is faulty and not functioning, the ASR is capable of functioning with the 1/good PS as long as the 2nd faulty PS is still housed in the chassis.
When time comes to swap out the faulty PS, you have 5 minutes to accomplish the swap.

Two power supplies are used for redundant operation. System total power consumption shall never exceed rating of one power supply to maintain redundancy.
Two power supplies must be installed in the chassis at all times to ensure sufficient cooling. The system fans are inside the power supply units and must spin for cooling. Because all the system fans can be powered by one power supply, the second power supply unit does not have to be powered on, but it must be installed.

If a power supply is removed, the system can run with only one power supply for a maximum of five minutes. The router waits five minutes before shutting down. This five-minute window allows time to replace a failed power supply.
