Hello,

I have a stack of 2 switches with the following IOS version.

Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 16.09.04
Cisco IOS Software [Fuji], Catalyst L3 Switch Software (CAT9K_IOSXE), Version 16.9.4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Would it be advisable to update it?

17.9.4 is suggested by Cisco

yes if that is no in production you about to put in production suggest to upgrade to 17.6.5 or 17.9.4a (depends on requirement)

make sure you always read the release notes.

Note : once the ROMMON upgade to 17.X above you can not roleback. you can roleback IOS XE.

Also you need to address smart License, since you going above level smart License is must. (if you have any network advantage License) if that essential thats ok, but good to setup smart license.

You can do exiting switch stack and upgrade one go, or upgrade standalone and stack -which ever way you are comfortable.
