Cisco Packet Tracer Switch Pratice

Hello,

I am praticing basic command by Packet Tracer and have problem with adding port name/ description on the switch.

Q: I want to label the port name of f0/1 as "Trunk". I have already added the description command. But, the Name column on "sh int status" is still empty.

I have tried with swtich 2960, 3560 and 3650. All don't work.

interface FastEthernet0/1

description Trunk

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode dynamic desirable

Switch1#sh int f0/1 status

Port Name Status Vlan Duplex Speed Type

Fa0/1 connected 1 auto auto 10/100BaseTX

How can I solve it? Thanks in advance.

Try save or writing the config and test it.

I have tried to copy running config to start-up, then reload. It’s
still not working.

could be limitation PT, i used other simulators, it works for me.

Hello,

I agree with Balaji, it is a limitation (one of the many) in Packet Tracer. The description only shows up with the 'sh interfaces' command:

Switch#sh interfaces
FastEthernet0/1 is down, line protocol is down (disabled)
Hardware is Lance, address is 000b.beb5.8101 (bia 000b.beb5.8101)
Description: TRUNK
