Cisco SG300-10 Console & IP Addressing Issues

I am going bonkers.  This switch is endangering my position.  I have given it over 40 hours.

When I am logged in using CLI or the Web-admin, and I try to set an IP address the connection drops, and will not return until I have restarted the router.  This means I can't give them IP addresses in this manner.  There is no DHCP present.

So I purchased a USB Serial Adapter.  It left me a male DB9, so then I purchased a regular male-male DB9 serial cable.  Using Teraterm I see until com ports the USB adapter.  I select it, try to connect with every sort of setting imaginable, including the ones recommended on this site and in the manuals - and it sits there blinking.  Nothing more.

I have worked with numerous switches and network equipment, and nothing in the past ever gave me any grief.

Any ideas?

Hello

Sorry to hear this is endangering you position at work.

Can you explain what you are trying to configure as regards setting an ip address
Can you post the ccnfiguration of the switch?

can you confirm the com port setting also - have you tried ?

Speed 9600
data bits 8
stop bit 1
parity none

had issues with the baud rate on these switches before

try 115200 (Default Baud Rate) for sg300 that worked for me

don't use blue rollover cable there unsupported

The device also comes with default http access so you should be able to configure it over GUI if you cant get console working

they come set as http://192.168.1.254

If your using dhcp though check what ip its been assigned and use that instead to access

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/csbms/sf30x_sg30x/administration_guide/78-19308-01.pdf

I tried that speed about a dozen times, directly, and by auto-negotiation on either end.  What I can do is configure by the router by GUI or CLI - except to assign an IP.

I am not using the blue CISCO cable when I attempt to use the Console port.  I have reset the modem many times to factory.  I have tried both the current, and the previous software thinking I might have a corrupt software version.

Did you get this resolved?

Did you try to console to the switch? If you can, get ahold of the original cable that came with the switch/router, it is a different pinout than the normal cisco cables. I have 2 Cisco SG300-10's that I just bought but found this issue when I worked with one at a previous position. I "think" the cable is a straight-thru serial cable that is used on the SG300-10.

Twas very frustrating, that took a support call to get the answer.

Hope this info helps.

IP Addressing:  I have reset the router around 40 times, and have tried numerous things.  For example I have logged in via webadmin, and telnet in from teraterm on Win 7 to the CLI interface. In both cases I get in fine.  I can create any kind of setting except assigning an IP address.  Often I kept it simple:

Create Vlan 9,10

Attempt to assign IP Address to VLAN 10 172.18.18.1 255.255.255.0  (via CLI or webadmin, same locked up result).

The routers freeze.

I unplug the router (I've tried waiting overnight and still could not get to a login - so it is not that I'm trying too soon)

After powering down the router I can login, butnaturally it is now using the startup config - lacking the IP address I attempted.  I have the same result changing the default IP on vlan 1, or any other IP add, change, or adjustment attempt via either interface.

Because of this I assumed there was an issue with using these methods to set IP.  So I moved on to trying to use Console Port.

Console Port:  I am using a USB to serial adapter and a straight through serial cable.  I have tried many things for settings, including fixing the speed on the SG300-10 (and attempts at auto-negotiation) and at:

Speed 9600
data bits 8
stop bit 1
parity none

I tried at every other speed via auto-negiation or directly from both the terminal application and the SG300-10.

When I try the console, it blinks.  That's it, no text entry, a return makes no difference, no sign of life.

It has been a frustrated and humiliating experience.

Hello

I have never used this switch - but i am thinkin does it support multiple addressing ( ie multiple SVIs

Also have you tried changing the IOS it could be a bug?

I did try two version of the IOS, yes.

I have the same situation SG300-28Port Gigabit Managed Switch, even with the new firmware

I know this post is pretty old but Did anyone get this figured out? I have this switch for a lab connection at home and having the same problem when trying to create additional SVI (other than SVI1). Have tried numerous things as stated above. @paul driver @sgrettenberg

UP DISCUTION !!!

J'ai le même problème au niveau de la configuration ip sur n'importe quel VLAN.

Switch01#conf
Switch01(config)#interface vlan 10
Switch01(config-if)#ip address 10.10.10.254 255.255.255.0

Bonsoir,

votre routeur est-il en mode routeur?

set system mode router

C'est un Switch sg300-28p, configuré en L3.

Et Idem depuis l'interface Web

Bonsoir,

Vlan 10 existe-il dans la base de données vlan?
