Hello. I hope you guys can help me with this. I have a SG50052P switch with a null modem male port on the back that says "console". I've connected a female to female null modem cable to it and tried to connect but when I try with teraterm or putty I get no login prompt, just black connection.. nothing at all. Can someone please help me out here, i'm not sure why i'm not able to connect to the switch...

heres the pdf how to console in it is the console port you connect to , have you tried to web to the default ip address , give yourself an ip 192.168.1.1 connect to an Ethernet port and then in your browser put in http://192.168.1.254 , its in the doc below as well

If you cant console direct in these switches they have web Gui by default set to ip 192.168.1.254 you can access it that way by http
DB9 serial cable
are your baud settings set to 115200

Sorry i'm not so versed in networking, but my subnet is 255.255.255.0 192.168.168.x how would i get to 192.168.1.254 from that? I tried it with each baud setting including 115200 but no cigar.. could it be that i need to press the little reset button on the switch? As far as i know noone ever configured it to begin with. thanks alot for the help

The device comes with an ip address 192.168.1.254 you would web to it http://192.168.1.254 from a browser might be https either , give yourself an ip in the same range 192.168.1.1 and directly connect to it , you should be able to ping that ip and access it that way as another way than console.
Its probably best you use the gui to configure it if your not familiar with networking as console access is cli
You should not need to reset it if its new that's only if you want to wipe it to factory settings

thanks for the help guys. I wasn't able to log into the console of the SG50052P after several tries. Maybe i'm trying to connect to the wrong port?? I am connecting to the port in the back of the SG50052P that says "console", but i heard that this is the poe or something. Should i be using the serial port in the back of the switch to connect to the actual terminal or is there an actual ethernet port somewhere i may have missed on the front for the console.... thanks for your help!

Thanks for that manual Mark. Through that I was able to figure out the switch had a dhcp address assigned to it. I was able to get in and do what i needed to do.
Thanks again!

I think Mark may have answered the question, the baud rate on these is usually 115200 which is unlike the Catalyst switches which use 9600.
I find them annoying to do via the CLI as I am so used to the native IOS so I tend to use the GUI.
