Cisco switch 2960/3560=> Password recovery and Factory Default with Mode Button

Hi Experts,

I have some confusion with holding Mode button with cisco 2960/3560 switchs.

I read out many forums and articles but where things are unclear.

somewhere given 3 seconds and somewhere it is given 7 or 10 seconds.

Qus1)  What is exact time to press/hold Mode button to perform two given below tasks:

A. Password recovery ( as per my knowledge 3 secs)  Right or Wrong ?

    Would switch configuration (startup + running) be safe

    after password recovery? Yes or No

B. Factory default   (as per my knowledge 10 secs)    Right or Wrong ?

    I am afraid, bcoz if i press mode button more than 3 seconds then

    it will remove whole configuration from cisco switch. Yes or No

Qus2)  I want to recover password of catalyst 2960/3560 switch without

          loosing Start/Run configuration. this is my main concern.

          plz tell me how to do this, what will be the Mode buttom hold time

          in seconds ?

Qus3)   What does mean of this line

           "If password recovery mechanism is disabled in switch

            then you will lose all the config".

 I have forget to save config.text file to my startup config and my lan Network gone..how can I restore the Network  and switch default config??

i have got 3 layer 3 switches. to erase all configurations i pressed the mode button for 15 seconds. now i am not able to login via console serial cable on Putty

it just stays with all green lights solid. can anyone give me advice on how to fix it.

What is it displaying on the console terminal?

If it is not displaying switch:,then you didnt press the mode button very well.Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the switch. Press the mode button  and hold onto it while you connect the power cord. Wait for some seconds and release mode button. If it displays switch:,move to step 2

Step 2:

switch: flash _init
switch: load_helper
switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.text.old
switch: boot

Step 3

Switch>enable
Switch#rename flash:config.text.old flash:config.text
Switch#copy flash:config.text system:running-config
Source filename [config.text]?
Destination filename [running-config]?
