First question:

>>when am trying to plug a PC into the switch, it takes power as the switch is POE .

How does your PC get power?  I dont understand why a PC needs POE.

Second:

Your port configs doesnt have it turned POE do they?

From http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps4324/products_configuration_example09186a0080722cdb.shtml

Switch(config-if)# power inline auto

auto         Automatically detect and power inline devices

Make sure that yuou are using a known working POE device when testing.  Also try a nonPOE device to make sure the port atleast becomes up/up.

Third:

When you do debug while plugging in a capable POE device what does it say?

Handy docs:

Troubleshooting Power over Ethernet (PoE)

(diff platform, same exact principle)

Can you please post the complete output for the command "sh version"?

jimmy,

i followed your advice but  i cant Use the power inline interface configuration command to configure the power management mode on the Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports.

when am trying to allocate power inline under the interface, am not able to get the following commands :

#power inline {auto [max max-wattage] | never | static [max max-wattage]}

or

#logging event power-inline-status

Is that due a software version which not supported those commands ?

leo,

pls look at the sh ver output >>>

Hi Mohamad, how are you doing?

What is the model for the 24-port 2960? Seems like the the model you sent the sh ver (WS-C2960G-8TC-L) doesn't support PoE. As I found in this link. Look at table 14:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps6406/product_data_sheet0900aecd80322c0c.html

Also you can see a comparision between 2960 models on this URL:

Vitor,

thanks for you assitance, your post were really useful to me.

the switch model is  WS-C2960G-8TC-L  which is Cisco Catalyst 2960-8TC-L.

i tracked the link attached and found that there is no POE mentioned .

does this mean the switch not supported POE ?

Regards

Model number                    : WS-C2960G-8TC-L

That's not a PoE switch.  It won't support PoE.

You have but three choices:

1.  If an 8-port PoE switch is what you need then consider the WS-C3560-8PC; or

2.  Get power injectors for the power devices; or

3.  Get a mid-span switch.
