Cisco X45-SUP7-E will not do EIGRP

I setup a 4510 as a Layer 3 switch within our network and had planned on configuring EIGRP in it to peer with a 2911 that we also have in our network.  After issuing the ip routing command I had scripted router eigrp XX to be placed in as well.  It failed.  When I went back in to try manually, EIGRP is not even an option after router in the command list.

Is this an IOS specific problem, if so, what IOS would work for the X45-SUP7-E supervisor engine without reeking havoc on my current configuration?

What feature set do you have running ?

A "sh ver" should tell you.

It appears we are running lanbase.  To upgrade to enterprise services is it a licensing thing or can I just swap out the IOS?  I knew this had changed on the universal images but didn't know the normal way to proceed.

It's a licensing thing.

You need a license file to activate the required feature set.

Just a quick point.

If your L3 switch is only peering with the 2911 then you may be able to use just EIGRP stub which would mean you would only need IP Base which I suspect would be considerably less money than the Enterprise Service license.

It may be that you want other features in Enterprise so if you do pleased ignore.

If your L3 switch is peering with multiple other L3 devices though and passing on routes then you will need full EIGRP.

Depends on your topology.

Edit - even if the switch didn't pass on routes though if you think sometime in the near future you may need full functionality then you would be better going straight to Enterprise now in my opinon.

There are three feature sets -

LAN Base - no EIGRP

IP Base - EIGRP stub routing

Enterprise Services - full EIGRP
