hi all,

we have purchased from an old company 7 3850s which are stacked together, they have flattened them so we need to configure them all again

i know how to configure/set up individual cisco switches, so my question is, do i need to console into each individual one seperatly ie set up vlans, ip of the switch, gateway telnet server etc etc or once or i have set up one i can set the rest via this one or do i need to actually console into each one individually

once that is done how do i configure the stacking for the switches so they appear to be one big switch

thanks,

rob

Hi

Martin L has provided the correct way to do this, I repeat it here.

Let all boxes be unpowered.

Connect all stackingcabels.

Power on the switch that you want to be number 1

Wait until this switch is online

Check if the switch is number 1, otherwise, change it

Power on the switch you want to be number 2

wait until it is online

check if you now have switch 1 ( the first switch you powered up), and switch 2

If the second switch is not 2, but some other number, then renunmber it and reboot.

Check again if you have number 1 and 2

And so on, one switch at the time

So I don't need to run those commands then to change switch priority?

just may need to renumber switches if they come up in the wrong order?

In my opinion it's not needed to change priority. Others may have different opinions, if so, please share experience.

Am i right in thinking if I wipe config off master switch it will wipe all configs off all switches in the existing stack
