Connect a 3750 SFP to 3548 GBIC

I want to connect the 2 using the GBIC and SFP at Gbit Speed. What are the modules needed? What cables are needed? And copper or fiber? The 2 switches are side by side.

Hi,

If they are side by side the cheapest option would be a standard ethernet crossover cable. You'd need a GLC-T (1000Base-T SFP) on one end and a WS-G5483 (1000Base-T GBIC) on the other end.

Hi,

Another factor which will influence the selection of the SFP/GBIC is the distance.

If the two devices sit next to each other the cooper is the cheapest indeed.

What kind of switches you have?

Hi,

There are many models within the 3500XL and 3750 series so if your switches have only 10/100 cooper ports you will need GBIC and SFP to connect them through gig. But if your switches have 10/100/1000 ports already only a crossover UTP cable needed.
