Hello, I have a question concerning the connection of my 2950g switch to my wireless router. I have a (zoom 5352) type of router that I bought myself for my internet access, and I have comcast as my ISP. Everything in my network works fine, all the devices are connected wiressly to the router. The thing is that I'm studying for my CCNA and I want to play with my LAN to apply my knowledge, so I decided to drop a Cisco 2950g switch in between the router and all my devices so they all connect to the switch through Ethernet, but I get an orange light from the link-port in which I connect the switch on my router port. This means that there's no traffic going through the connection, my switch doesn't support MDIX so I already tried a crossover and straight-through cables and nothing, I tried multiple ports on the switch and router and nothing, My switch only has the basic config that I did myself (nothing fancy). I thought that with only pulling a jumper from one of the ports on the router to one of the ports on the switch, all the devices connected to the switch would get internet access but that's not the case, what am I doing wrong? I tried to go into the settings of the wireless router but did not see anything that could help me there. Any help that you could give me would be really appreciated, thank you!

hi,
router to switch is always a straight cable. did you try using another straight cable?
try to play around with the speed and duplex settings on both devices.

The straight a through cable I made it myself and it tested pass, I tried others too. I don't know much about the duplex speed, but I give it a try and let you know, thanks.

Hello, I resolved it. I forgot I turned the DHCP and assigned random IP/default IP addresses to my laptop TCP/ipv4, I just turned back on and all good, thank you for the help though.

Hello -
I came across this post as I am having the same issue. Studying for my CCNA and I connected my ASUS wireless router to a 3750G and cant quite get the config on the switch port gi1/0(which goes to the router) correct.
I'm thinking it should be a trunk port? Should I disable DHCP/NAT on the wireless router?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

What do you mean with (can't get the config)? You mean no internet access through the switch? Can you give more info?

Correct, I have no internet access through the switch.

I got access through on my switch - turns out it was a bad patch panel connection.
Appreciate your willingness to assist, thanks so much!
