Could misconfigured trunk configuration cause input error ?

Hi,

I noticed at a customer that, they configured "switchport mode trunk" on one side and "switchport mode dynamic desirable" on the other and huge input errors have been observed on the side which was configured as desirable. They modified the config to static trunk on that side and input error have gone away. Anyone have had any experience like this ? can a layer2 misconfiguration cause errors on a port ? Thanks in advance.

Hello Dumlu,

I've give you the same answer of anothe thread opened by Baha for similar issue

if the side with dynamic desirable puts itself in access mode all frames with a vlan tag different then the access vlan should be discarded.

the behaviour can be dynamic and depends from the fact that the other side can be willing to negotiate or not.

Another possibility is that DTP exchanges information about VTP domain if VTP domain changes a dynamic desirable port will not become trunk.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
