Create new VLAN on 4500

Hi All,

I have an in production x2 4500's which I would like to add a new vlan and IP address to.

Can I do this during office hours, and this wont cause any issues?

Sample config...

interface Vlan65

ip address 10.100.6.2 255.255.255.248

no ip redirects

no ip unreachables

no ip proxy-arp

standby 65 ip 10.100.6.1

standby 65 timers 1 3

standby 65 preempt delay minimum 120

Thanks in advance for this.

Natalia

Better do this during a change window.  Outages can happen.

Would it be best to use the reload command, as I shall be doing this work remotely, or would I not loose connectivity to the switch?

Hello Natalia,

I havent faced any issues doing the similar configuration during production hours. But it's always better to do any changes in a right change window.

Also, this change wouldnt cause a loss of connectivity for sure. But still it doesnt harm in issuing a "reload in 10 or 15" as you say you will be remotely doing this change.

Thanks

Vivek

Hi Natalia Woloseckyj,

I have created so many times vlan in production, and till date i didn't see any loss of connectivity unless

your move old vlan user to new vlan after creating it !!

Thanks all.

I dont have a vlan user, we use Tacacs for all SSH connections.

To be on the safe side I will do this out of hours, and on the secondary switch first, and then test connectivity between both.

Thanks,

Natalia
