i have a small doubt regarding dhcp v6 and v4 . why clients requesting for a ip from dhcpv6 server always uses a fixed port( 546 in case of v6 and 68 incase of v4) . Generally for all other traffic such as http request from client the source port will be random. Can you please explain the reason or provide any link

Hi,
The reason dhcpv6 uses a specific client port is that it is specificly defined in RFC3315 section 5.2. Same applies to DHCP (RFC 1531 section 4.1).
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3315.txt
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1531
Hope this helps
