Can anyone please explain the difference between 'static' and 'secure' MAC addresses as can be configured in the MAC table of a Catalyst 2950 series switch with the commands :-
static :-
mac-address-table static hw-addr [interface] interface-id [vlan] vlan-id
secure :-
mac-address-table secure address hw-addr interface interface-id vlan vlan-id
These are the commands as described in the Cisco IOS Release 12.4 documentation.
The course I am following also describes the Catalyst 1900 commands 'mac-address-table permanent' and 'mac-address-table restricted static' and I can understand how these work. The latter restricts forwarding of frames to the specified port to be from only certain source ports. I cannot see any parallel with the 2950 commands above.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
