Hi Friends,
I need a kind help, i have some switches in my Lan, all the switches are configured with mangement IP. Now the customer want to access the switches (Telnet/hhtp) from their PC with the name. How can i achieve the same. I have did the following on the switches
ip domain-lookup
ip domain-name mydomain.com
ip name-server 192.168.100.10
but how my dns server will resolve the names for the switches? do I have to create a static entry on the dns server for the same?

Hi Sunny,
You need to create record entry in DNS server so that name of the router will be mapped with management ip address of the router and then you can get the connectivity with name of the device rather with ip address.
check out the below links for creating a record and configuration in DNS servers

Hope that helps !!

The command you added to the switch is only for DNS on the switch. This tells the switch where to resolve the DNS from, unless you added host entries. If you need to resolve DNS on the LAN then the PC's have a pointer to where to look at the DNS settings. From a command window do a ipconfig /all This will show you the IP address of the DNS server. This is the server you will need to log into and add the DNS entries for all the network gear you want to resolve by name to IP. The systems admin should know how to do this.
