EARL 9/0 inlet temperature crossed threshold #1(=53C)

Hi all,

One of our customers has a WS-C6509-E switch, and there's a log showing it's temperature too high and triggered alert on it's module 9.

Below is the show module 9 result:

I would said it's not related to the air conditioning problem.

As there are some other devices have no issue with temperature and also other modules on the switch still working fine.

Any suggestion?

          - Could you also show the particular log-message ?

@yensheng_lin ,

The only way to find out if it is the module versus the positioning of the module would be to move the module to another slot and see if the behavior persists. However, that would require config changes most likely.

Were any changes made in the racks near the 6509 such as new devices being added which could alter air flow ? Is the 6509 installed per the guidelines at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Chassis_Installation/Cat6500/6500_ins/03instal.html#pgfId-1150729 ? Specifically, this note is important:

Note To maintain proper air circulation through the Catalyst switch chassis, we recommend that you maintain a minimum 6-inch (15 cm) separation between a wall and the chassis air intake or a wall and the chassis air exhaust. You should also allow a minimum separation of 12 inches (30.5 cm) between the hot air exhaust on one chassis and the air intake on another chassis. Failure to maintain adequate air space can cause the chassis to overheat and the system to fail. On Catalyst switch chassis in which the airflow is from front to back, the chassis may be placed side-by-side.

Unfortunately, the WS-X6748-GE-TX is now End of Support (see https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-6500-series-switches/eos-eol-notice-c51-735926.html) , so even if it is a hardware failure (which it probably is if the behavior persists across slots and no environment issues are in play), the customer cannot get a replacement from TAC.
