eFSU on VSS from 12.2(33)SXI4a to SXI8a to SXJ4

Here is my dilemma.  I have a 6500 VSS pair and have been told I cannot perform an eFSU upgrade from SXI4a to SXJ4 something about too big of a jump in IOS trains. I had a test VSS pair (that unfortunately is no longer test pair and in production, or I'de be testing my eventual question) and was able to verify that in fact I cannot go from SXI4a to SXJ4 directly without incurring an 8 minute loss of connectivity while one sup reloads even with dual-homed devices since I am unable to perform an eFSU and had to test an FSU upgrade.  So I was wondering if any of you out there would know if it's possible to perform an eFSU from SXI4a to SXI8a then to SXJ4 to not have any downtime

Thanks in advance

Matt

Hi,

In principle, there is a document so-called EFSU Compatibility Matrix...

You can find it under the "Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches Release Notes" section:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/prod_release_notes_list.html

SX SY EFSU Compatibility Matrix

So, according  this document the:

  • eFSU from 12.2(33)SXI4a to 12.2(33)SXJ4 marked as P (Pruned - The two images are not tested for an eFSU. eFSU upgrade or downgrade is only fully supported between images released within 18-month window)
  • eFSU from 12.2(33)SXI4a to 12.2(33)SXI8a also marked as P (Pruned - The two images are not tested for an eFSU. eFSU upgrade or downgrade is only fully supported between images released within 18-month window)
  • eFSU from 12.2(33)SXI8a to 12.2(33)SXJ4 marked as C (Compatible or Full - The two images are Fully Compatible for an eFSU. All of the stateful eFSU Features will maintain functionality during software upgrades)

But, this is just a document (and quite useful), so...

Thanks!

Dear Matt

R u able to performed the upgrade on your VSS pair using EFSU

What modules you are using in the chassis ?

Did u notice any modules reset/reload during switchover in ISSU run version step.

Please share the experience.

I also need to upgrade the VSS with 6513/VS720-10G.
