Hi
i have series of switches c9400,c9500, c9300
to be implemented as Core, distributions, Access hierarchical.
i want the CVD in this scenario is it gonna be all L3 to the access or L3 only to the Distributions, ot maybe all L2.
and if possible any configuration guide or labs to practice. since this implementation will be upgrade to collapsed core which means all L2.
thanks

below suggested design for the 3 Tier Enterprse LAN
Cat 9500 or Cat 9600 as CORE ( collapsed model, CORE and Distribution)
Cat 9400 - Distribution ( if you looking collapsed core you can remove this add same features above mode )
Cat 9300 or Cat 9200 - Access Layer

Hi balaji
thanks for your reply
maybe i wasn't clear enough in my post
i already have the devises mentioned in the post ( 9400,9500, 9300)
i was asking since these devises relay on stack-wise which will eliminate STP is it still best practice to have it L3 from the core to distribution or access? or its better to work it as L2

CORE (collapsed Core ) to Access - i go with Layer 3 - with OSPF as IGP (so it will minimize your Broadcast domain to Access Layer only)
SD-Access (DNAC future) - will replace all - VXLAN and Any-cast Gateway.

Hi,
These days, most organizations deploy a 2 tier network that is comprised of access and core. Since you already have purchased 3 tiers, I would use the access layer as layer-2 only and distro as layer-2/L3 where you terminate all the VLANs and deploy SVIs. From distro to the core, also use layer-3 with /30 subnets. This way, your broadcast domain is limited to access and distro. As for IGP, you can use EIGRP or OSPF. OSPF is standard just in case you need to connect to any other vendor's equipment.

and VTP will be distributed separately between Distribution switches?
and relay more on DHCP relay since its in servers?

Are you VTP based network, VTP fades and gone, i would advise to move on to next technology,
when you Move to Layer 3 network, then only access switch required VLAN - that too indepentent. ( with DHCP helper you get DHCP Address from the Central DHCP Servers)
You have new Gear which has best of the Cisco product, so utilise them for better service and usability, rather going back old technology.
Sorry to discourage you, but we want to suggest best of techlogy and value for money and Service sreamline.
please ask any concern you still have.
