hi all,

so i know on the switch, to find a mac you do this

show mac address-table address mac:addr:here

and it will show you the port, but can you do this via the ip address instead, ie find the port via the ip instead

thanks,

rob

Yes, with IP Device Tracking.

i see theres configuration to do before you can do this, unlike the show mac address comamnd

if i enable it, will it consume resources up, as i read it sends a beacon out every 10 seconds?

Depends on the platform and the IOS/IOS-XE version.

there SG300 switches

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with SG platform.

I know, IP Device Tracking is supported in IOS and IOS-XE.

isnt it this as seems to work

show arp ip-address x.x.x.x

show arp ip-address x.x.x.x

yes that works, is this what you looking to find ? but OP was different though.
