Flowcontrol recieve on

Hi,

What is the "flowcontrol receive on" option used for?  I have a switch where all ports are configured like this.

Is it to do with jumbo frames?

Hi,

Flow control is a IEEE802.3x feature to allow a receiving deice to tell a sending device to pause transmition briefly to avoid congestion.

"Flowcontrol receive on" means that the switch requires the sending device to transmit flowcontrol "pause" frames. IE it can pause output based on receiving a flowcontrol pause message to avoid congestion.

Other options are off and desired.

"Off" means that the connected device cannot send flowcontrol frames

"Desired" means that the connected device can send flowcontrol frames
