Gigastack of Catalyst Switches

Are the gigastacks "hot-swappable"? Someone told me that gigastacks are not hot swappable and that I should power down the switch before inserting and removing the gigastack... is that correct?

all GBICs, also the Gigastack GBICs, are hot-swappable.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the switch. I've always been told by TAC that hot swappable gbics are not supported on the 3500 platform for example.
