I have a ASA 5506x and appear not to be getting any activity from my WAN port after lightning took out the modem/router. That has been replaced so I was thinking I could reassign an operational port to take over for the WAN port. Im new to this type of thing and could use some help. I am connected via console cable with the enable password. Just need to know if this is possible and what commands to issue.

Hello,
that shouldn't be a problem. You will need to move the configuration to a new, working port. If you keep the same IP address and interface name, the configuration probably does need no changes...
Do you know how to do that ?

I am a bit confused. The original post tells us that lightening took out the modem/router and that it has now been replaced. In that case I would expect that things would return to normal. But apparently they have not. So I can think of a few possibilities:
- when the modem/router was replaced, is it possible that some of the new device parameters are different from the old one?
- when the modem/router was replaced is it possible that some cable connection was changed and the ASA and the modem/router are really no longer connected?
- when lightening struck is it possible that it did some damage to the interface of the ASA?
Can we get some verification of the state of the ASA interface? If there is an unused interface on the ASA it might be a good test to move the physical connection to that interface, to remove any current configuration from that interface, and to move the configuration parameters from the old outside interface to this new interface.
