Hi all --
I have a need for something that I'm sure is somewhat possible, but I'm not sure what my options are...
I have a public wireless Internet network in a place that I don't often physically go to, but I can reach from my office/home via SSH.
The equipment is a Cisco 1841 and Cat2960 switch that provide routing/NAT/vlan support for a number of access points "behind" the router and switch.
I need to be able to know whether or not a throughput problem is the wireless provider or the ISP -
If I go to that site, it's obviously easy to plug into a switchport that is in one of the vlans used by the wireless system, get a DHCP IP address and run a test against speedtest.net or something like that.
But I can't always go there when they're having trouble --
If I SSH into that router from my office or home, what can I do remotely with extended ping to simulate a bandwidth test?
What sort of settings and output interpretation (by me) would be effectively as close as the same thing to doing simple speedtest.net
test from a PC on the wired segment of the network?
thanks,
