I got this from keith barker vidoes on ospf load balancing

How to connect two routers using subinterface,

i tried in gns 3 , created subinterfaces but giving an error

% Configuring IP routing on a LAN subinterface is only allowed if that
subinterface is already configured as part of an IEEE 802.10, IEEE 802.1Q,
or ISL vLAN.

Also I used encapuslation on both sides and tried to ping but its not pinging

Any suggestion here would be helpful

tthnks

You need to do "no shut" under the main interface.

That error message occurs when you try to configure an IP address before you have used the "encapsulation dot1q <vlan ID>" command.

But you then say you used encapsulation so it's not clear what you are saying to be honest.

Can you clarify ?

Jon

R1: interface fa0/0.10

R!:encapsulation dot1q 10

R1:: ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0

R2: interface fa0/0.10

R2:encapsulation dot1q 10

R2:: ip address 10.10.10.2 255.255.255.0

After  the above configuration i tried to ping from R1 and R2 , but its not pinging.

Configuration is fine, have you brought the interfaces up ie. "sh ip int br"

Jon

Both the interface status shows  " administratively down " in each router. i tried  a no shut command

i tried  a no shut command, but still statuss remains unchanged

You need to do "no shut" under the main interface.

Jon
