How to copy the running IOS to the Flash

We have a remote router that we needed to upgrade the IOS version but ran into an issue. When doing the tftp load we erased the flash but the tftp continues to fail. The flash is now deleted and the we cannot upload the new IOS. I have a new router on site but before i shut this unit down i would be a lot more comfortable if i could have a backup in case the new one is "toast"

the router is a Cisco 17111 series.

the site is a military site so downtime is very sensitive.

Thanks

The running IOS is already stored in flash, are you referring to the running configuration ?

What message are you getting from the console of your router when the TFTP fails? You may want to try using a different TFTP server. For example, PumpKIN and SolarWinds tftp servers have some issues with large files.

We push IOS images out to about 2000 Cisco routers here. For some reason this one is being temper-mental. The IOS has a vulnerability so it needed to be upgraded. I already squeezed the flash also so I can't "undelete" it.

I am curious whether the running IOS can be copied to flash.

the running image can not be copied back into flash. Have you tried using FTP?
