How to remove Invalid interfaces

Hello all,

I've copied the config from a 3750 which contained a 4-port GBE module to another switch, which will service a new location. I've applied the config to the new 3750, but it has retained ports G1/1/1-1/1/4 in it's config, even though the new switch has no module installed. I've tried to delete the invalid interfaces from the console, but it refuses stating "Removal of physical interfaces is not permitted".

Would someone be so kind as to provide guidance?

Thank you.

Whether GBICs are installed or not, the physical interface that they plug into still exists. You cannot remove them, just like you can't remove any of the other physical ports.

What you can do is default the configuration on those ports:

conf t
default int range Gi1/1/1 - 4

-Jameson

-Jameson

Even though a rework module isn't installed in the 3750, the config will still show interfaces g1/1/1 - 4.

I have just put them all in a shutdown state on mine.

Did you ever figure this out?  I have the same problem with an older switch that I want to reuse.

Hello Justin,

put them in shutdown state

Add a description that says NOT-EXISTING-INTERFACE-DO-NOT-USE

This should be enough.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
