Hello,
I have one 3560 48T it performs all the routing in my domain. I ca not absorb any down time during regular business hours (7:00am --5:00pm)
I have Smartnet SNTP contract......I do not know aht level of support/service I get witthis but am wondering if there are better cotract that would garunteee quick replacment or if someone hasa good redundancy plan they could shar i would appreciate it
I am not aware of how to have an extra unit laying in the wings that would snap into action if the original one goes offline ?
thanks

You contract seems to be 8x5 next business day.
You can purchase an additional switch and configure your network with redundancy.
You can implement HSRP for your hosts and dynamic routing protocol for external connectivity.

Edison beat me to it.
Your contract provides hardware and software support. If you were to lose the device, the reconfiguration of the replacement is up to you.
If you are running everything off one device you have a single point of failure. There are a number of ways to build
reduncancy into your envriornment so that won't happen. It will require at least one additional device.

and I have device manager and Netowrk assistant and still cant see mto see how there 2 tools would permit me to save the current running config to disk....... please help

We can't guide on how to make your network fully redundant from remote. It seems you are a novice when it comes to switching and routing. I highly recommend bringing outside help for further assistance.

Hello,
Based on your posting, 2hr is still down time .As Edison suggested buy a second switch and configure it for HSRP or
just use the same config and keep it as cold standby.
You can simply use tftp sw to copy the IOS and running config to your PC/laptop and save it.

As noted by Edison, you can minimize a second point of failure with a second stand-alone device, but another option is to use a redundant device, such as a switch stack. With either a second stand-alone device, or switch stack, you should have much less down time (as perhaps zero) than 2 hour replacement provides and then you wouldn't really need a 2 hour replacement contract.

I just had my Cisco partner consultant in and explained everything to him and he is going to present me with options ……. I think at this point I will be buying a new L3 switch and then having the old on as my backup thanks to all
