IE 3200 CLI first time setup: garbled input

Setting up a new IE3200 switch. I am using putty and secureCRT to configure. Both programs will not allow me to configure. I have verified Baud rate to be 9600 and also adjusted settings to v100 and set the flow rate to none. I flowed Cisco’s guide to setting up putty step by step. The output of the CLI is good it’s my input that gets changed. I type “M” and I get “I” or some other symbol. Arrow key is “L+” or something similar. 

I have tried two laptops and it happens on both. I’ve tired two new IE3200s and it happens on both. But no issues with a switch already connected, set up and running on our network.

In this document, it states the baud rate needs to be 9600.  Wasn't sure if you tried that or if it were a typo.

The switches are straight from the factory at Cisco. I'm doing initial setup. Its very frustrating because it makes me set an enable secret password and when I type a character it types 4 characters, and if I copy and past the password in, it just pastes gibberish. I can also tell the Baud rate because I fought the system and got in enough to see the serial port settings. I have a screenshot posted in the original post.

                                                         progress. Could you  1) take a very simple password for  testing 
                                                                                         2) Not copy and paste but enter it yourself.

@robert-j-burroughs15-civ Could you please try TeraTerm? I think It's the most straightforward terminal emulator.

They have a portable version, so you should be able to run anywhere.

I work with government equipment. It’s not easy to get new programs. But it looks like I’m not the only one with this issue.

That's interesting, we configured a couple of 3100 recently and no issues with them, maybe is affecting only the 3200?

Hi! I’m seeing the same issue with the IE3200 switch CLI output looks fine, but input characters get scrambled (e.g., typing “M” shows “I”). I’ve checked baud rate, flow control, and terminal settings with Putty and SecureCRT, and tried multiple laptops and switches. Has anyone found a reliable fix for input mapping issues on new IE3200 units?

If this is a switch issue, Cisco needs to address this. The boot screen reads just fine and so does all Cisco iOS outputs. It’s our inputs that extra characters are added and garbled up.

you used multiple laptops, but do they have a physical DB9 connector ?

or do you need an usb-to-serial adapter?,
(and you used the same adapter on both laptops?
-> replace adapter, because the output signal (+/- 12V) may lay outside the margin accepted by the switch)
