Implementing VLANS

nacertified

Hello

I m Athar. My company has approx: 350 LAN clients. All these clients reside in one private ip range. We have 12 departements in the company.

Now there is a need to implement VLANS in our existing LAN scenario.

We have one router, one ASA-5520 ,and number of layer 2 managable switches.

What criteria should we adopt to implement vlan in our network.Should we need more routers or not. What should be the ip scheme.

Thanx in advance.

Bye

Hi

I would recomed you to configure a switch as a VTP server, and rest of the switches as vtp clients.Connect the switches with eachother and configure that ports as trunk ports.

Create the vlans on u r vtp server, this will propogate the vlan info on all the switches.

Segment u r users according to department or buildings or floors.assign each vlan for each segment for this u will need to have a seprate subnet for each vlan.

Does u r router capable of doing intervlan routing.first confrim this.

Thanks

Mahmood

I would recomend u to create vlans per each floor or building.
