inter VLAN Routing between different switches

Dear All,

I have an hybrid network that consists in :

  • 01 x CISCO Catalyst 2960-X 24 ports
  • 02 x Mikrotik CR5125-24G-1S-RM
  • 01 x HPE E2620-24

I want to apply network segmentation by creating VLANs and configuring routing between these VLANs.

Is it possible to configure this between these switches that are not from the same manufacturer ?

My own idea is to :

  • Create VLANs on each L2 switch highlighted above
  • Install a L3 switch (Cisco Catalyst 3650 for instance)
  • Connect all the L2 switches on it and configure the InterVLAN (ip routing)

Is it correct ? if no, what are the steps to accomplish this ?

Thanks  in advance.

Hi,

Yes, it is possible.

  • Create VLANs on each L2 switch highlighted above
  • Install a L3 switch and configure all VLAN and its IP address < Interval Routing must be here>
  • Connect all the L2 switches on it and configure VLANs.

Hello,

on a side note, and in addition to Deepak's post, I think the 2960-X has limited routing capabilities and can do SVIs, so you might be able to use that switch as your layer 3 device...
