Interface numbers for C9200-48P with uplink module C9200-NM-4X

I am installing a stack of five C9200-48P switches and have two issues:

1- although C9200-NM-4X is installed in two of these switches, I cant see it in the output of "show module". Is there any command to verify the existence of this module?

GAASW02#show module
Switch Ports Model Serial No. MAC address Hw Ver. Sw Ver.
------ ----- --------- ----------- -------------- ------- --------
1 56 C9200-48P xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx.xxxx.xxxx V01 16.12.4
2 56 C9200-48P xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx.xxxx.xxxx V01 16.12.4
3 56 C9200-48P xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx.xxxx.xxxx V01 16.12.4
4 56 C9200-48P xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx.xxxx.xxxx V01 16.12.4
5 56 C9200-48P xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxx.xxxx.xxxx V01 16.12.4

2- "Show module" shows 56 interfaces in all switches, even the ones without uplink module. I can see these interface numbers even for switches without uplink module. is this normal?

Hi there,

This is normal behavior, the switch is pre-provisioning the configuration elements in anticipation of a network module being used. In theory you could config all of these network module elements, but without the physical module being inserted they would be redundant.

Use the output from show inv to determine what the ports references are. In your case:

Gi3/1/1-4

Te3/1/1-4

Gi5/1/1-4

Te5/1/1-4

As you have probably noticed depending on what SPF transceiver you use in a port will determine which port config is used (Gi for SFP and Te for SPF+)

cheers,

Seb.

 - Is there anything in the logs when the module is inserted ? Is the overall power supply or supplies sufficient to include this module in the switch ?

actually, it shows in "show inventory", but I am still confused about port numbering. I can see these ports in all switches, even the ones without uplink module.
