Interfaces output clarification need

Hello Cisco Support Group,

Can anybody help me to understand more about the below output from the switch interface.

  5 minute input rate 42000 bits/sec, 7 packets/sec

  5 minute output rate 68832000 bits/sec, 6180 packets/sec

In typical connectivity Switch connected to a Server  Switch <---->Server. As per my understanding,

Input rate is the number of packets comming in from the Server to Switch    Server ---> Switch

Output rate is the number of packet going to Server from the Switch            Switch ---> Server

Can anybody through your thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

T.K

Hello T.K.

You're right. Input counters represent the packets received on the switch interface, and output ones the packets sent through that interface.

Anything else you asked and I didn't get it?

Yup just look at it from the viewpoint of the switchport  and its obvious .  Out from switchport is towards the server and IN  is coming in from the server . This is true whether it be a switchport  or L3 SVI  or a routed port .  Your understanding is correct.
