Can a 2960s running IOS ver. 15.0(2a)SE9 co-exist in a stack with a 2960x IOS ver. 15.0.2a-EX5?

No, for the stacking to work correctly, both switches need to have the same exact IOS versions.

Thanks. What is the difference between SE9 and EX5? Are they minor. Would they stack but say Mismatch?

The difference is minor but if you stack them, you will see version mismatch and that can cause issues for you.

As what Reza said, it's not going to work. 

Both models can support the latest version of 15.0(2)SE train.
