Hi,
What is the best practice strategy for Managing Cisco IOS.
whether we need to upgrade every device for the latest release ?
Our current strategy is as follows
Upgrade when
1) There is a security advisory released for your image
2) there is a bug / crash observed for your current image and the features which you are using
3) when a new feature set is required
Can some one validate this strategy and if possible share some URL for reference.

Hi,
I thought I would just let you know.
Cisco has a support service call as Cisco SmartCare. It is a small device (kind of logger) that sits in your LAN. It then uses the ping responses, snmp, syslog, etc to check the status of your devices in the LAN. It then collects these logs, and sends it across to a global portal hosted by cisco. This portal proactively intimates you (as a customer) about any updates in terms of IOS, features, link / port failure/down, etc.
If you have mutliple cisco devices in your network, and you are looking to renew your smartnet service, I think smartcare is also an option you can look at.
HTH
cheers,
Saurabh
