Hello Guys,

I have already ordered a Cisco ISR 1921/K9.    but as i read on cisco website, it is written that Cisco 1921/K9 only support  (IP SLA Responder) feature.

I dont know actually wat is sla-responder.  but our requirement is we will connect that Router 1921/K9  into 2-ISP links and i want to enable  IP-SLA probes on that router so that it can track  both the routes into those isp links.       so my question is  does  CISCO 1921/K9  have the support for what i need ?

How about  Cisco 1921-SEC/K9 ? please let me know about its security Bundle  does it support  my requirement or how ?

Hi Imran,

Yes, your observation is correct. As i see in "Cisco Feature Navigator" (http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/index.jsp ) and justifiction given in the below URL.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps10616/white_paper_c11_556985.html#wp9000807

In Cisco ISR 1921 (Universal IPBASE) IOS don't have support for IP SLA operations except to act as IP SLA responder.

But yes in Cisco ISR 1921 (Universal DATA) IOS we have got the support for IP SLA operations and also in Cisco ISR 1921 (Universal Security) (Your preferred package of IOS) IOS too.

Regarding your question as what is IP SLA Responder?, please find the reply below.

Q.

What is the Cisco IOS IP SLA Responder?

A. When a Cisco Router has been designated to reply to Cisco IOS IP SLA test packets, configuring it to be a Cisco IOS IP SLA Responder provides greater accuracy in the measurements. The responder can utilize MD5 authentication for securing the control protocol exchange.

After the initial exchange, the responder can listen to Cisco IOS IP SLA test packets in the port requested by the Cisco IOS IP SLA source. Upon receiving the test packets, it captures the timestamps when the packets arrive, as well as when the replies leave. These timestamps help the Cisco IOS IP SLA source to make accurate assessments on one-way delay and the processing time in the target routers.

Cisco IOS IP SLA Responder can be enabled for the following operations:

• UDP Echo

• UDP Jitter

• TCP Connect

• Application Performance Monitor

• Video Operations
