IPv4 addressing

Suppose that an IP address is assigned to a device, not an interface of the device. Explain what (if anything at all) \breaks down". In particular, how would routers perform their forwarding function in this case?

Hi Oonnikannan,

Can you tell us the reason behind your question. This is very hypothetical question as pretty much all devices implementing IP, assign an IP address/subnet mask to an interface (logical or physical).

Yes this is a hypothetical question and was wondering what would happen if such a situation arise.

If it´s not to an interface,

To what would you apply an IP address,

I think that´s the question we have ,

Hi Oonnikannan,

My point was that this would not happen on devices I know of, hence me asking for more information.
