Is Cisco IOS using STP or RSTP per default ?

Hi, on the OFG Book CCNA 200-301, Wendell Odom is saying that "Cisco IOS switches today typically default to using RSTP rather than STP".

But when i check a fresh boot of a Cisco IOS image from CML, in the running-config there is PVST mode and not RPVST.

So who is right here ?
Thank you.

for me, SW use IOS not IOS XE always use RSTP as default.
PVST or R-PVST is config not default

Hello,

This could have been updated after the book came out in print. I cannot think of a situation (even in the CISCO exams) where you would need to know which default Spanning-tree mode is enabled on an IOS device with regards to specific versions either. This could also be IOS version specific. You should know at the very least that PVST is CISCO proprietary and RSTP is open standard along with the features of each.

Hope that helps

With a show version i have "Experimental Version 15.2", and i'm right by this Cisco IOS 15.2M&T - Retirement Notification - Cisco
It's an old version right ? If yes, it's a bit sad to get that from CML...
