mac address and arp

if a server has a default gateway pointing to a firewall and a layer 2 switch is in between the FW and server, can i be able to se the arp entry of server on switch?

Yes you can. Both server and firewall mac address will show up in the switch.

Hi Friend,

You may not see the ARP entry on the switch as your server is communicating with FW. Yes if you initiate a traffic from switch to server of firewall then you may see ARP entry on switch also.

As Medan stated you will still see mac address entry on switch for both firewall and server.

but i cant see the entry for server even after doing a ping from the switch?
