Monitoring Cisco Switches

Good day,

i am searching for a monitoring tool where i can create a layout of al the switches.

I just want to make a drawing of our toplogy and want this to show on a big screen.

The only thing that it needs to do is to send me an email, or trigger an alert so  can act on it.

No problem if it would work with only ICMP.

Someone have an idea ?

Have arround 300 switches (cisco)

i already know the programs Solarwind and WUG, but these programs are expencive and to complex. we dont need so much options.

Thanks a lot!

Solarwinds is very usefull. Just be causious of all the different modules. But with it i made a map of my enitre network and you can display this on a big screen. Then if a node goes down or is warning you can drill down into the map to get very specific.

thank you for your answer Andrew, i already installed solarwind trial but for our simple L2 network it has to much options.

I just need a simple tool, to just make a map of my network and the program should ping the network every some seconds.

Thats all i need

Have you tried the Cisco Network Assistant? I realize its an older tool but I believe it has the features you are looking for. I use Manage Engine OpManager. The price is fair however its feature rich so it might be too much for what you are looking for.

Cisco Network Assistant is still being updated. A maintenance release was just put out this month. However, it is limited to managing a community of no ore than 40 devices at a time. Reference the getting started guide on the CNA product support page.

Although it doesn't create maps (although some plug-ins can be added to somewhat give you maps), Nagios (open source, commercial supported version also available) can provide simple up/down status and be setup to email you when a certain condition is observed. http://www.nagios.com/
