Moving messages from default level to a different level

Is there a way to ''move'' some messages to a different level?

My customer needs to move some messages to a different level they currently are.

Just as an example:

How to move a message from level 5 to level 3 ?

Following message level 5 (notifications):

*Mar  1 12:16:35.005: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet1/47, changed state to down

How can I ''move'' it to be in a level 3 (errors)?, as this other message?

*Mar  1 12:19:18.573: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Port-channel1, changed state to up

Any help or ideas?

Very appreciated,

guruiz

I do not know of a way to change the level of an alert. Is there a specific reason this is needed? You should just be able to send logging level 5 to your syslog server then filter the logs there.

best regards,

Greg

Greg,

Thanks for your comments.

Our customer is filtering on syslog server just level 1 (alerts) and level 2 (critical) messages, but there are some other messages (that exist on other levels) he need to bring to these 1 and 2 levels, because they are important to him, i.e. messages level 3 (errors), 4 (warnings) and 5 (notifications).

Can we move a message from its current level to another level?

or is there a way to complete what our customer requires?

Any ideas or comments are welcome.

Thanks.

guruiz

In regards to the syslog messages send to the HP OpenView the problem is that a higher the level of traps it will cause the server to overload with messages so it is good to use a different syslog level than the default please use the command bellow to check this: logging trap level You can set the level to 3 that is errors or 4 that is warnings. To check the levels and extra information about the logging please check the link bellow: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/ffun_c/fcfprt3/fcf
