Hello,
I need some assistance with simple multicasting configuration on a C6513. We have two appliances that need to communicate using multicasting. These two appliances are uplinked to the same distribution switch (C6513). Both appliances have IP addresses within the same subnet (10.1.251.x/24; appliance A ip address: 10.1.251.25; and appliance B ip address: 10.1.251.26). The vendor's documentation stated that the appliances communicate via multicast group address 224.0.1.37; however, the source and receivers aren't communicating via this multicast group. I turned packet capture on the ASA, which is the default gateway for these two appliances-- 10.1.251.1). The log is attached.
My question is do I need to configure the uplink interfaces of the two appliances on the C6513 switch with multicast? If so, what are the commands?
Thanks in advance.
Best, ~zK

Hi,
Since the multicast traffic is layer-2 only (local to the switch), you don't need to configure the firewall.
Here is the config guide for the 6500.

Thanks for the input, Reza!
So, will I need to configure the L3 switch or ports where the appliances are communicating via the multicast traffic?
