N7K CMP Image Dedicated Flash Memory

Team,

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/nexus-7000-series-switches/Data_Sheet_C78-437758.html

The article above states that the CMP has it's own flash memory. We are running 6.1.2 and I'm about to clean unused software. However, I saw that the Mod10 CMP is running 5.0(2).

CMP (Module 9) ok
CMP Software
CMP BIOS version: 02.01.05
CMP Image version: 6.1(1) [build 6.0(0.66)]
CMP BIOS compile time: 8/ 4/2008 19:39:40
CMP Image compile time: 6/26/2012 0:00:00

CMP (Module 10) ok
CMP Software
CMP BIOS version: 02.01.05
CMP Image version: 5.0(2) [build 5.0(0.66)]
CMP BIOS compile time: 7/13/2008 19:44:27
CMP Image compile time: 5/25/2010 13:00:00

Can I safely delete this image from the supervisor flash memory to make space for new code? I just want to make sure that this doesn't affect the CMP. I read that the CP and CMP both need to work in order for the SUP to function properly.

Hi Carlos,

You can clean up all the other images but looking at the output you posted, the other images are actually newer (9.6.2.8a, 6.2.8a) than the ones you are running.  So, maybe its a good idea to keep them in case you want to upgrade to one of the newer one later.

Thanks Reza. Yes, I uploaded the new images because we are upgrading to 6.2(16) next month which will require four code jumps.

So just to clarify, I CAN remove the 5.X image and kickstarts from both flash memories of the SUPs and the CMP won't be affected? So the CMP does indeed have its own flash?

Hi Carlos,

Correct.  The CMP has a its own memory and operating software.
