We have the need to temporarily set up a table of computers on campus. Normally, we can connect an un-configured switch and it will pick up the VLAN configured on the upstream switch. We have a nexus core and all switches are in transparent mode.
Here are the issues.
Native vlan mismatch:
*Mar 1 01:21:51.076: %CDP-4-NATIVE_VLAN_MISMATCH: Native VLAN mismatch discovered on GigabitEthernet0/1 (1), with TMS-3560POE-8.lee.edu GigabitEthernet0/4 (4).
Downstream switch is 2960 and upstream switch is 3750. But it does the same thing on the 3750 switches.
Upstream port configured:
interface GigabitEthernet0/4
switchport access vlan 4
switchport mode access
spanning-tree portfast
The downstream is un-configured. Tester shows VLAN 1 on all downstream switch ports. It's not pulling VLAN 4. We have some Netgear switches that will work. What am I missing?

Hello,
I hope even though you are seeing this message, still the computers are working ? Am i correct?
The message is seen because the downstream switch port is in access vlan 1 (other word native vlan 1) and the upstream is in vlan 4. If you want to get rid of these messages, extend the vlan 4 to the down switch and configure the link between these two switches as a trunk port.
Please feel free to ask me any questions if you have.
Hope this helps and kindly rate my post if found useful.

Madhu.

I could trunk both ports and add VLAN 4 to the downstream switch. It was just easier for the techs to deploy since its only for temporary setups. As I mentioned, a lower end switch like a Netgear will work that way without having to reconfigure upstream switch port. The cisco switch is set to factory default and the VLAN cleared off. "No cdp enable" on port stopped the VLAN mismatch message.

No, the computers weren't working on the switch. I put a fluke tester on the port and its showing native VLAN 1.

Or else you can simply disable CDP on the interface...
