2.5 DISTRIBUTION SWITCH
A A Distribution switch shall collect 1000Base-SX uplinks from Edge Switches and transmit
10GBASE-LR Ethernet signals to two core switches. Distribution switch shall be
a chassis-style multi-layer switch. The Distribution switch shall support 10GigabitEthernet
802.3ae standard and 10GBASE-ER (1550 nmoversinglemodefiber).
B The Distribution switch shall include the following components at a minimum:
1. 1.BasicRequirements:
a. Provides multi-function network modules and a common bus or backplane
b. Provides multiple power supplies (international220VAC) to be connected to at least two different power distribution circuits
c. Provides adequate ventilation to operate in15 to 45degreesC dry bulband 20 to 90 percent relative humidity, non-condensing
d. Provides all required supervisory functions, including software, to manage internetworking operations in a master/hot standby mode
e. Includes switch fabricapable of supporting up to 512Gbpsbandwidth including all required Internetworking Operating System
f. Conforms to19-inch rack mounting requirements
2. LAN Connectivity
a. Provides GBE 1000Base-SX Multi-Mode Fiber with GBIC module for each port to provide connectivity to Access layer switches
b. Provides 10GBASE- LR (1550nm over single mode fiber up to 40Kilometer)
with XENPAK or SFP modules to connect to Core layer switches

Q: Distribution switch shall be a chassis-style multi-layer switch.
A: How big of a space do you have?

A: How many SX ports and how many 10 Gbps ports do you need?
Your requirement is geared up for a 6500E chassis. Your supervisor card could either go with Sup720 or the newer Sup2T (same price). But I'm currently reluctant to recommend the 6500E solution because of the new 6880X/6807X. So you may want to look into either the 6880X or 6807X. The 6807X is a 7-slot chassis and the supervisor card, a Sup2T, can be upgraded in the future.
