Hi Khaja,

You just told to be able to manage the switch apart from this there is no other requirement.
I would suggest SRW224G4

The Cisco SRW224G4 Gigabit Switch allows interconnection of up to 24 separate network devices. Throughput is essential, and this switch delivers optimal speeds on the connection level.

Prioritize and structure your network traffic with the SRW224G4 using a variety of techniques that keep your need for data redundancy and continuous uptime at the forefront of the discussion. Multiple clients can access the switch's robust management functions, and its internal monitoring software watches over your network's every move.

Additional features of the Cisco SRW224G4 Gigabit Switch include:

  • Non-blocking switching capacity of up to 12.8 Gbps
  • Up to 256 active port- and 802.1q-based VLANs (4096 range)
  • Secure access limitations using 802.1x port authentication and MAC filtering
  • Optimized for growing businesses with four expandable Gigabit uplink ports
  • IGMP snooping, L2/L3 COS, queuing & scheduling makes solution ideal for voice/video
  • Intelligent traffic management with rate limiting, policing, shaping, and storm control

Please rate the helpfull posts.

Naidu.

Hi,

The best way to select switches is to refer the Data sheet. However i would go for 3750, because it is simple and powerful for access layer.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps5023/product_data_sheet0900aecd80371991.html

For core,

6500 switches.

Some useful links in product selection.

Cisco feature navigator is a tool used to select the products using feature, image etc. Below is the link for it.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Well I would suggest one of the models between the SRW224G4 and the 3750. The 3560X is a great switch. It as the full IOS features you're looking for. You can also get PoE, redundancy, and layer 3 IOS of if you require it in the future (or now). It also has the same performance as the 3750, but it's more cost effective. Post if you have further questions on the model comparison.

I would go with the 3750x with ip services.

Why ? Well you would be able to do all the things you need to with it and still be able to have 10gig if need be.

the 3560x is a good second choise but i am not shure you will be able to test things like stacking and so on.

if you get the 3750x you can rent/borrow another 3750 and test stacking and so on.

if you need to test the adv ip services then you are able due to a test license that comes with the system.

that will give you alot more things to test such as eem and better routing abilities.

Good luck
