need to verify routing when ospf is distributing default route

Hi Everyone,

Here is current setup

1>Dis Sw------Core_SW---------Edge_Sw------ASR---------ISP

where Dis Sw,Core_Sw and Edge sw are running ospf.

Edge switch is advertising the default ospf route via

default-information originate metric 10 metric-type 1

where Dis Sw and Core_SW has point to point via ospf.

currently switch Dis Sw is running default route via Core_Sw with next hop IP of Core_Sw.

Need to confirm  if on dis sw  i put static route

0.0.0.0/0 say via x.y.z.x

then when traffic comes to the core sw will it use the default route advertised via ospf or will it continue

to use next hop ip of x.y.z.x which  is configured on the distribution switch?

Regards

MAhesh

Hi Mahesh,

So distribution switch will select static route will it continue that path when it arrives to core switch?

No, since the core switch does not have any static route, there is only one protocol to use and that is OSPF. If this is facing the Internet, the default route should be propagated downstream only from the edge device that is facing the provider. And I think you already have that configured.

Hi,

The static route is having lowest AD value compare to  OSPF so Static (default) route will select by router or switch.

So distribution switch will select static route will it continue that path when it arrives to core switch?

As core switch has different static default route learned by the ospf.
